Murphy’s Ice Cream
Irish dairy has been around for over a millennia, yet it is only in the last two decades that strides have been made to produce ice-cream from our world renowned dairy. Leading the way are Sean and Kieran Murphy, co-founders of Murphy’s Ice-Cream. Established in Dingle, Co. Kerry in 2000, these brothers set out to produce “the best ice-cream in the world.”
Attention is paid in ensuring Murphy’s ice-cream is made of the best of everything and handcrafted using traditional methods. Fresh cream, free-rang eggs, and pure organic cane sugar are mixed together and flavoured using natural ingredients. Fresh milk is sourced from the rare and indigenous Kerry cow simply because “the milk is so wonderful.” The Murphy’s even make their own sea salt from Dingle sea water and also distill Dingle rain to produce their sorbets.
In becoming the “best ice-cream in the world”, Murphy’s have no qualms in experimenting with new and bizarre flavours. If ‘smoked salmon ice cream’ doesn’t tickle your fancy (perhaps, understandably) then they will certainly win you over with other flavours including: sea salt, Dingle Gin, Irish Coffee, or caramelised brown bread to name just a few!
Murphy’s now have several stores dotted around the country in some hotspots like Dublin, Killarney, Galway, Kilkenny, and of course, Dingle. Be sure to drop in and check it out soon!
