On the 4th of March 2017 Lovin Dublin, Franciscan Well and the Irish Food Trail joined together to create a fantastic craft beer and food trail. It was a brilliant success! 30 people were split into two groups of 15 then finished up together in the final venue. There were three different venues total. In each venue everyone got to try a different Franciscan Well beer and some scrumptious food that was chosen to pair well with the beer.
The First Stop – The Rag Trader
The Rag Trader on Drury Street was the first venue of the trail. For some, it was their first visit to the bar and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Franciscan Well Chieftan IPA was the first beer that everyone got to try. This beer was the favourite for most!.This light citrus beer was paired beautifully with the platter in the picture below. The platter was made up of smoked salmon, brie cheese, black pudding, cured parma ham, apple purée and hard bread. Delicious!
The Second Stop – The Market Bar
In the Market Bar everyone got to try Franciscan Well Friar Weisse Beer. This beer was a personal favourite of mine. The banana, clove and lemon flavour was paired really well with the market bar chicken and chorizo skewers and house nachos. They were very tasty nibbles that had me stuffed before the final venue.
Final stop – 37 Dawson Street
At the third and final venue, 37 Dawson Street, everyone got to try Franciscan Well Rebel Red Ale. The sweet, malty dark flavours worked really well with the raspberry cheesecake. The bitterness cut through the sweet taste of the cheesecake leveling the flavour out and making them a great pairing.
