Jack Smyth Independant Irish Craft Beer – Gallagher’s Boxty House
Jack Smyth is the brand of beer produced for Gallagher’s Boxty House in the heart of Temple Bar. Following in the footsteps of such successful brew house endeavours like Dublin’s Porterhouse, this amazing range of beers is only available in Boxty. Planning an excursion to try these amazing beers is a must. Producing a new range of Irish ales is one of the latest endeavours from Padraig Óg Gallagher, the brainchild behind this successful restaurant. A simple experimentation in brewing proved to be very fruitful and has since only added to the amazing menu in Boxty.
Jack Smyth’s is produced in a small brewery in the Greenhills area of Tallaght so you’re always guaranteed the freshest beer. The small brewery produces three varying styles of beer: a stout, gold ale and red ale, all deliciously expressive and unique. Here are some of thoughts on the Jack Smyth beers. First is the gold ale which is crisp and refreshing with some citrus noted adding a subtle tang to the ale. The red ale, an indigenous beer to this island, has a sweet cereal flavour reminiscent of rich jam that moves into a light bitterness typical of an ale. Last but certainly not least is the stout. For us, this stout is one of the best around. Different from traditional stouts which utilise nitrogen gas, Jack Smyth’s effort is a carbonated stout – a fizzy Guinness so to speak. This fizz accentuates the wonderful rich dark chocolate flavours of the stout, perfect for pairing with the beef and stout stew!
Tasting trays of all three beers are available to enjoy with your meal. As well as that, several items on the menu incorporate the Jack Smyth beers into their recipe meaning the food and drink combination is a match made in heaven. Expect to see Jack Smyth beer appearing on the shelves of supermarkets in the coming future!
